GREGORY CHANDLER--AVOCADOS

I learned recently that avocados are fruits.  Avocados are loaded with healthy fats and essential B vitamins.  According to research, vitamin B6 is one of the most important nutrients for overall physical health.  Vitamin B6 supports the nervous system, helps the body manufacture red blood cells and aids in the synthesis of proteins and fats.

Those who recall my writings on ZMA, a supplement that contains vitamin B6, know that vitamin B6 assists giving the body a good environment for muscle building.

GREGORY CHANDLER--GOODBYE TO ATHLETIC SUPPORTERS

Athletic supporters are fading fast.  I am not talking about sports boosters or sports fans.  The athletic supporter I am talking about are the kind commonly known as jock straps.

The word is that males born after 1980s do not like athletic supporters.  The only kind of athletic supporters commonly used by young males are the kind that hold a protective cup.  The athletic supports are being replaced by compressions shorts.

All of you athletes of an older generation should look in the sporting goods store for compression shorts.

GREGORY CHANDLER--CAFFEINE FOR LATIC ACID RELIEF

Many individuals take caffeine for its fat burning effects.  Additional reasons to take caffeine are to boost ones metabolic
rate as well as increase mental alertness.

Another view is that caffeine may reduce lactic acid
buildup as muscle glycogen is depleted.
One study found that 300 mg of caffeine taken prior
to a workout reduced the amount of
muscle burning felt by subjects in the study.

GREGORY CHANDLER ON PISTACHIOS

Pistachios are rich in the antioxidant resveratrol.  I have blogged in the past about resveratrol. Resveratrol plays a role in fighting cancer.  These nuts are also loaded with lutein, an eye health booster.  Finally, pistachios are packed with
fiber and potassium.

GREGORY CHANDLER ON CREATINE LOADING

There is no need to consume large amounts of creatine in the beginning stages of taking the supplement.  The old school advice was to take 20 grams of creatine per day for 5 to 7 days.  This period was followed by 5 grams per day.

For modern creatine supplements, take 3 to 5 grams every day.  Take it before working out on training days and with the largest meal of the day on non training days.
